I'm going on year three...or four?...of my news break. It's been so nice for my mental health to not get caught up in the blow by blow of other people's battles. I've found reading newsletters and having people talk about what's on their mind has kept me pretty well in the loop, while giving me the opportunity to feel connected rather than disempowered.
I've been embracing the world of nice TV lately. Scrolling through the options, there are so many shows that center on violence and I just don't have the stomach for it. Watching romcoms gets me into media and cultural studies mode, since many of them have plots that hinge around things I find problematic.
Two shows that center on nice people living their lives that I've been enjoying are With Love (on Prime) and Sex Education (on Netflix). What’s your favorite nice show?
How do we cultivate a culture of compassion?
This reminder that you're never alone in the struggles you face is written for parents of kids with autism. I think it holds true for everyone.
West Virginia is adjusting their tax code and property tax enforcement to be less aggressive when seizing properties from struggling residents and make it more difficult for slumlord LLCs to purchase properties.
Adjusting to life when planning isn't an option.
I’ve been doing this too! I devour historical fiction. Right now Sanditon is my background TV. Instead of CNN.
