Exciting news from your neighbor!
Dear ,
Plain and simple: Caregivers need your help—so that means I need your help.
You may already know that my mission in life, since Steve died, has been to create a free social network for caregivers. Six months ago the site went live. Well, now it’s more than just live; it’s amazing! You can find it at www.thecaregiverspace.org. At this point, we have a community of almost 24,000 and a reach of a quarter million people.
This has been a labor of love. When I became Steve and his mother Sylvia’s caregiver, I needed to find a place to go for the support that would get me through the hardest of times. I found some help online, but nowhere near enough. I was aware of the growing demand for caregivers in our aging society, but am learning more and more about other special needs every day. We are here for all caregivers; not just those caring for aging parents or dementia and Alzheimer’s patients.
There are over 65 million family caregivers in the United States who make up 75 percent of long-term carers, and because their role is generally voluntary, caregivers save the United States government upwards of $450 billion a year.
It’s time their voice was heard and needs met.
We’ve just launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for more caregiver specific resources on our site. Although we are a not-for-profit corporation, we are still mired in the backlog of applications for 501(C)3 charitable corporation status, which will allow us to obtain corporate funding in the future.
Until now I have provided the funds needed to make The Caregiver Space a place for caregivers to go to find the tools they need to cope and care for themselves. This includes my team of two young dynamos, Allie and Jonah, who you may have already met.
If you haven’t personally served as a caregiver, it’s likely someone close to you has. It may still happen to you—and sooner than you think.
So, I’m reaching out to ask you to help. Caregivers face an uphill battle. Your contribution will go to ensure they’ll have the right support when they need it.
Please visit our fundraising campaign here, to learn more about our story and help us continue the work that ultimately affects us all.
With gratitude,
Adrienne Gruberg
