A gift we give each other
Do you remember those chain letters that used to go around in school, where you'd send someone a book or a friendship bracelet or whatever? (I got the nerdy girl versions, so who knows if or what other kids were doing) Rest assured, they've migrated to email.
I got one a little while ago, where we were supposed to send the #1 person a poem or fragment of writing we find meaningful. Which seemed lovely, but I was nursing a cold, overwhelmed with other things, and wasn't home to consult my bookshelf, so I didn't participate.
While I didn't share a poem, Martine Cote was kind enough to share a poem with me:
Late Fragment
And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
beloved on the earth.
- Raymond Carver
If you have a short poem or fragment in mind that you'd like to share, please hit 'reply' and send it my way. I'll copy them into an email and share them with all of you.
PS. If you've given up on a resolution already, I've got some suggestions for new ones:
PPS. One more bit of poetry for you:
