How's your summer going? 🌞
We're more than half way through August. If you're in the Northern Hemisphere, that means summer is approaching its end, even if it'll still be warm for a while.
Yesterday it struck me just how different this summer has been than I anticipated. And I don't mean compared to how I imagined summer back when I was shoveling snow. I mean what I expected this summer to be like back in the middle of June when I left Asheville to head home to Toronto.
That's without any medical mysteries or mishaps. Nothing big has changed in my life (for once!) Even when things are going more or less as planned, I am incredibly bad at predicting the future. Even in the short-term.
I don't think this is unique to me, I'm pretty sure this is just how being human works. We're not known for being great at anticipating what will make us happy, we're not great at following through with our plans, and there are just so many things in life that are outside of our control.
As much as that's frustrating, it's sort of nice to have my worries about the future put in perspective. If I can't anticipate what next week will be like, there's no way my concerns about a year from now are accurate.
PS. If you need a reminder that the world is delightful and full of lovely people, I have been loving this Facebook group where people share their weird thrift store finds. Trust me, you don't need to enjoy actually going into thrift stores to enjoy this (mostly wholesome) source of laughter in your newsfeed.
