๐ชย ๐ย ๐ the Power of Caringย ๐ย ๐ย ๐ช
Greetings ,
"The power of caring is... " How would you finish this sentence?? Our first and last objective here at The Caregiver Space is to empowering all of us is our daily work. Sometimes it means confronting political realities, other times it's evaluating and reevaluating our own singular limitations and abilities.
These two issues lead off our Weekly Digest Links... just one part of what we produce and procure: Articles, media posts & information. If you only have a moment to spare, we hope to fill it with meaning and inspiration. And we don't stop at articles and Facebook posts.
You may have noted the last few weeks that we release this email on TUESDAY....to remind you of the Radio Call In Blog and our Group Chats. But now there's a change in the calendar.. The online radio broadcast kicks off an hour earlier.. at 3pm EST - 12noon on the West Coast. Click in (just to listen) or Dial in (to join the conversation).. hosted by Dave Nassany, "The Caregivers' Caregiver" and Adrienne Gruberg, founder of The Caregiver Space And if you're getting this a day or two later, or just can't make the live broadcast, follow the link any day of the week and listen in on the recorded session.
Also on Tuesday, into the night, and now also on Thursdays, Bob Harrison hosts the Care Chats. Every Tuesday evening, 10pm EST (9pm CST, 7pm PST) he'll moderate and listen as only a fellow caregiver and loving widower can. On Thursday it's all about Bereavement and Loneliness. Click in on the graphic below or follow the 3 clicks to get your chat on. As always, we'll leave the chat history live through the weekend for folks who can't "tune in" at the appointed hour. You can read through the discussion and share the sentiments and sharing whenever you have time in the week.
Closing this month, we ask once more, for your feedback and direction: it's the first link below, taking you to The Page Listens forum. This month's Forum question is a simple survey to get you talking to us; your chance to tell us what you need and how you need it. Prefer to take your time with more thoughtful answers?? Paste the questions into your email composer and get back to it when you have some free(-er) time.
We're always looking for new ways to help share y/our hopes and dreams, struggles and solutions. This is how we harness the power of caring. We want to re-value what each of us can contribute in support of each other.
So Scroll down and click away. The links and previews of selected posts fall just after this intro. As ever we trail off with a post from our friends at The Mighty.
In the spirit of caregiving,,

When the Caregiver needs a Caregiver
In the midst of doing for others and caring for my wife, I was knocked down myself. I fell into an open manhole at a City of Albuquerque Recycling station on July 27, 2014. That started a new kind of life for me. I went from being able to pick my wife up and put her in the car and to lift her from bed to her chair and countless other tasks to laying beside her in our bed and hurtingโa LOT!

For caregivers, pain relief isnโt a political issue
From the White House to the CDC, pain relief in the form of prescription opioids is suddenly Public Enemy No. 1 ... The new guidelines, designed to reduce the rate of prescription opioid abuse, were supposed to exempt those undergoing cancer treatment and for those in hospice. Those guidelines failed my mother.

A Letter to the Late Dana Reeve, Christopher Reeveโs Wife, From Eric LeGrandโs Mother
Similar to your experience with your husband Christopher Reeve, my son, former Rutgers football player, Eric LeGrand, sustained a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the neck down more than five years ago. When faced with this devastating injury, you and I didnโt spend time thinking about it. We mustered all of our strength and energy and quickly transitioned into our new role as caregivers.
