Spousal Care Chat!
Greetings ,
Pushing forward. The work of artists returning to their studios day-by-day. The farmer waking early to tend to the crops. Caregivers too: returning to the homestead, the bedside, the doctors office, the pharmacy. Ours is a wandering workplace.
The Caregiver Space covers all aspects of our daily support in as many mediums as we can muster. Our articles, media posts & information bring greater understanding to our work. Even if we only have a moment to spare, even if our hands are tied up.
Our first feature this week is a story many of us live daily: caring for an elder at home. This blog post is a recast of a video produced by Justice in Aging a leader in research and advocacy for elder care. The video is made to illustrate the points in their newest report foretelling the troubles that will come as baby-boomers make their next transition. That's preview number one below this intro.
Second and third on this weeks digest, are two ways to connect in different ways: a radio blog and our Spousal Care Chat. Since it's Tuesday charge up your computing device: for the mid-day, hands free listening support, we highlight Dave Nassany, "The Caregivers' Caregiver" whose radio/audio broadcast happens each week at 4pm EST (3pm CST, 1pm PST). For the hands on, keyboard assisted, it's the nighttime chat with Bob Harrison, book and blog author hosts the Spousal Care Chats every Tuesday evening, 10pm EST (9pm CST, 7pm PST). Remember, we'll leave the chat history live through the weekend for folks who can't "tune in" at the appointed hour. You can read through the discussion and share the sentiments and sharing whenever you have time in the week.
And that's just the start of our work
So Scroll down and click away. The links and previews of selected posts fall just after this intro. You'll find a new entry to our Poem Prompt in the forums. as well as a recent Instagram "Care Card" and a best sample from the past weeks flowing stream of our Facebook page. Each of these is a place to spark your feelings as well as your creativity. As ever we trail off with a post from our friends at The Mighty.
Come on in, connect with your fellow caregivers, and begin to get a little something back share the wealth of your experiences.
In the spirit of caregiving,,

February's Focus is...
One way caregivers can spark introspection, is by answering simple questions.
Answer these questions as your “reply” or comment below… but don’t repeat the question.
The result, your answers, create a personal poem…
Another Day
Another day trying to be thankful
Another day seeking out
The little things that make life worth living
a moment in the sun
The song of a bird
The rich taste of coffee
a squeeze of hubby’s hand.
Another day of gratitude.

New Law (in NYS) Will Compensate Parent Caregivers of Adults With Special Needs
Last week, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a new law adding parents to New York’s Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP), a Medicaid-funded home care program. Previously, CDPAP supplied resources so distant family members, like brothers- or sisters-in-law, could be personal assistants to a loved one with special needs. Now, parents are included on that list. California is the only other state with such a program for parents, according to the Democrat and Chronicle.
